In 2026, streaming platforms pay artists fractions of a penny per play. Even garnering millions of streams, most independent artists see little to no meaningful income from these platforms.

Algorithm focused streaming platforms have moved away from alerting you when artists you follow release new music. While my music may show up in some feeds on streaming platforms, indie artists are becoming more and more buried even when you go out of your way to follow us.

Emails are a tried and true, reliable notification for music releases. I think it's a fair trade to give you free access to my music for life. You won't need a subscription to a giant corporation so you can continue to access it. If you are on the fence you can always unsubscribe later.

I'm happy for you to stream my music on your platform of choice if you aren't the type to collect mp3's. Convenience can't be undervalued. Consider signing up to the email list anyway, then you won't miss songs your platform probably won't alert you about.
